Ace House
The Ace House programme provides a fun and exciting environment in which to explore interests, socialize with others, and have new experiences. The day at Ace House starts at 9:00am with a variety of activities including current affairs, New Zealand Sign Language, short walks, percussion and computers and internet. These activities are followed by morning tea. This is an informal time during which people can socialize before more formal groups start.
There are two main session times throughout the day, with a break from 12-1pm for lunch. During each session there are three to four groups in progress. Offering people a choice of group and developing their ability to make choices is an important aspect of empowerment and encourages independence.
Some people attend groups daily while others might attend only one or two groups throughout the week. It depends on what each person wants to get out of attending and how structured they want or need their week to be.
The participation of all people attending plays a vital role in the planning and formation of groups, group topics, and destinations for groups venturing out into the greater Wellington region. Community integration is an integral part of everything we do at Ace House.
